The U.S. Department of War released 28 new records on October 23, bringing the total number of files in its UAP archive to 478 across seven different tranches.
According to a report in Interesting Engineering, a detailed official Department of War memorandum reveals that two senior military observers spotted an unidentified object earlier this year during an unusual encounter near a sensitive, secure facility in the western United States, whose exact location remains redacted in the public document. The expanding collection includes recent military encounters alongside historical reports of unexplained aerial phenomena, with one key account detailing an encounter that raises complex questions regarding the object's flight characteristics and the complete absence of a detectable heat signature.
The experienced observers described a matte-black craft resembling a delta-wing aircraft, estimating its wingspan at nine to 15 feet, its depth at about six feet, and its thickness at roughly two feet, with its compact dimensions making its reported performance particularly striking.
The object's airborne manoeuvres were equally unusual; it reportedly climbed to an altitude of about 200 feet, darted abruptly sideways, plunged sharply downward, and then vanished completely from sight within seconds.
The military observers also noted that the mysterious object produced no audible noise or visible exhaust plume. Specialized thermal imaging equipment failed to record any heat signature, leaving researchers without a clear explanation.
Additionally, the object displayed no conventional aircraft lighting. The Pentagon included a graphical visual reconstruction of the triangular craft in the released files, though defense officials have yet to identify it or determine what technology could account for such flight characteristics.
The incident is not unique in the archive: three separate reports describe black triangles observed over sensitive and strategic military sites, providing further data for researchers investigating unexplained objects near restricted areas.
The latest batch also contains records from past decades, including a 1953 report detailing an elliptical metallic object spotted in Sweden, a 1957 file documenting an unusual sighting in Saudi Arabia, reports of flying saucers near California's Catalina Island, and declassified files regarding alleged paranormal activity at Skinwalker Ranch in Utah.
These disclosures follow a directive from President Donald Trump to declassify government records regarding unidentified aerial phenomena, UFOs, and possible extraterrestrial life—an effort in which Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and other agency heads are currently preparing additional records for future public release.
