Albert Einstein arrives in the United States
Albert Einstein arrived in the United States on this day in 1933, never to return to his native Europe. The Nobel Prize-winning physicist had accepted a position at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, but the Nazi takeover of Germany and growing antisemitic threats made his move permanent. Einstein became a U.S. citizen in 1940 and remained in Princeton until his death in 1955.
