Walid Saadaoui was said to have sold the Albatross Restaurant in eastern England to purchase firearms to use on an attack on Manchester’s Jewry, prosecutors told Preston Crown Court last week.

Inspired by ISIS, Saadoui had reportedly planned to purchase four AK-47 rifles, two handguns and 1,200 rounds of ammunition to carry out a mass shooting on Jewish targets in the city.

Unknowingly organizing to purchase the weapons from an undercover officer, Saadoui was arrested in a Bolton hotel car park during the firearm delivery, according to media reports.

Prosecutor Kelly Brocklehurst told jurors that Saadaoui used at least 10 accounts to post ISIS propaganda from 2022 onwards.

His posts reportedly included: “We will fight until death, even if souls have perished and blood has been shed.”

Another, shared in June 2023, read: “Should you be martyred or die in the cause of Allah, then his forgiveness and mercy are far better than whatever wealth those who stay behind accumulated.”

Amar Hussein, 52,  was also charged with preparing terrorist acts, while Saadaoui's brother Bilel Saadaoui, 36, is charged with failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism.

All three have pleaded not guilty and jurors were told that the planned attack was unrelated to the terror attack against Manchester’s Jewry on Yom Kippur.

Police conducted raids in Wigan as part of the investigation into the alleged terrorist plot

Police hunting for a crocodile in Derbyshire have said the search turned out to be "more fluff than fear".

Derbyshire Police's rural crime team posted "the strangest appeal ever to grace our Facebook page" on Thursday, after a member of the public spotted a crocodile dumped in a canal in Willington.

"We're going to go out on a limb and guess this little guy isn't native to Derbyshire and as such, if you can offer any information about the crocodile's whereabouts now, or have knowledge of how it ended up at that site, please drop us a direct message," said the appeal.

"For clarification, although we cannot claim to be medical professionals, we are acutely aware the crocodile is deceased," it added, after a number of commenters pointed out the animal looked dead.

The appeal was widely shared and the team soon had an answer.

"We can now confirm the mystery has been solved!" wrote the rural crime team on Friday.

"A member of [the] public has come forward and explained that the crocodile was a stuffed taxidermy one, filled with hay, and inadvertently caught while fishing...

"While it gave us all a bit of a surprise, it turns out this one was more fluff than fear!"

The escapade seems to have entertained the crime team's Facebook followers, with one commenting: "Brilliant! Really made me smile once it was revealed what it was!

"I can imagine it gave you all a bit of a shock."

Escape from Egypt 🐪🗻 moment on the DNTCCC: Man seeks to restore US status after ICE officers mistake opium perfume for drugs

Man seeks to restore US status after ICE officers mistake opium perfume for drugs

Indian national Kapil Raghu spent a month in an immigration facility after authorities confused a bottle of Opium perfume with drugs.

By Jerusalem Post Staff, October 18, 2025

Police thought bottle contained drugs and arrested Kapil Raghu.

Indian national Kapil Raghu is seeking to have his US visa returned to him after US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers detained him for a month after mistaking a bottle of opium perfume for illegal substances, according to recent US media reports.

The charges against Raghu were dropped, though he was detained for a month after initially being pulled over for a traffic violation on May 3, 2025, according to his attorney Mike Laux. While searching his car, authorities discovered the perfume bottle labelled “Opium” and arrested him for possession of narcotics.

Local network THV11 recovered bodycam footage of the officers, showing Raghu explaining that the bottle was only a popular fragrance.

“You got a vial of opium that was in your center console,” an officer told Raghu. “Go and take a seat.”

Raghu, who lives in Arkansas with his American wife, was working toward gaining American citizenship at the time of his arrest.

The Arkansas State Crime Lab confirmed the contents of the bottle were perfume, not drugs but Raghu still spent three days in the Saline County jail, where authorities found an “administrative/legal error” showing his visa status had expired, according to his attorney. After the three days in jail, ICE officials transported Raghu to an immigration facility in Louisiana for a month.

The long term impact

“She used to call me every night,” Raghu told THV11. “Crying, and my stepdaughter putting a Bible on her chest, crying. My stepdaughter was crying a lot. And she [Mays] was planning to sell her cars and move to some other country where we can live happily.”

The drug charges against Ragu were officially dropped on May 20, but the ICE detainment has resulted in difficulties in his citizenship journey and the family is now seeking to fundraise to help cover their legal and basic expenses.

“It is my understanding that, though released, Kapil now has a ‘deportation’ status, meaning he can be immediately deported for any minor offense, even jaywalking,” Laux shared in a statement. “But, more crucially, this classification bars him from working and earning money for his family, which has been devastating for them.”

Raghu has now written to the ICE legal office, and explained his case and formally asked whether his immigration status could be resolved.

Raghu said that his immigration attorney had “failed to timely file the required paperwork before my visa expired, which left me vulnerable and placed me in my current situation”.

“My wife, who has always been my greatest support, is carrying the entire financial burden alone, as I am currently unable to work,” Raghu wrote. “The mounting legal fees and the pressure of not being able to contribute have created a difficult situation for our family, and it has become increasingly challenging to manage.”

A 10-year-old girl lay unconscious on a ventilator in the intensive-care unit at Garrahan Children’s Hospital in Buenos Aires after surgeons worked through the night to rebuild her face and save her left eye. A metal fragment from a classroom volcano experiment gone horribly wrong penetrated her skull, prompting doctors at Hospital San José in Pergamino to summon a provincial helicopter for an emergency transfer, reported Rosario3.

The blast erupted Thursday evening during the Instituto Comercial Rancagua’s annual science fair, where parents, teachers, and students gathered around tabletop demonstrations. A volcano model—packed with powdered sulfur, charcoal, and what investigators called a “special salt” that matched the formula for gunpowder—detonated without warning. “Don’t get close, kids,” a teacher shouted moments before a fireball shot upward and metal tubing burst, according to cellphone video verified by Milenio.

Cata, seated in the front row, absorbed the force of the shrapnel, suffering severe burns and catastrophic eye and brain trauma. Eleven other students, four parents, and two teachers were injured. Most left Hospital San José the same night with minor burns, contusions, or smoke inhalation, but a 45-year-old teacher underwent two operations at San Felipe Hospital in San Nicolás and lost sight in her left eye, relatives told La Nación.

Written with the help of a news-analysis system.

“It was a tremendous roar, everyone started to scream,” said a mother standing near the display, according to La Opinión. “There were kids with bloodied faces and parents who didn’t know what to do.”

Mayor Javier Martínez confirmed that the projectile “affected deep areas of the girl’s face and even part of her brain,” adding that the school’s management team could face criminal charges, La Nación reported. Martínez noted that gunpowder “is not common for experiments” and likely amplified the explosion.

Prosecutor Fernando Pertierra opened a judicial inquiry, ordered forensic tests, and took statements from the school director, the institution’s legal representative, and the supervising chemistry teacher. Investigators sealed the classroom and courtyard while Scientific Police sifted through debris.

The Buenos Aires provincial Education Ministry suspended all activities at the school and announced plans to tighten safety controls and update prevention manuals, reported La Voz del Interior. Residents in Pergamino and the nearby town of Rancagua organized prayer chains across social media, urging, “Let’s use our networks to maximize the energy and let it reach Cata and her family,” shared La Nación. Doctors at Garrahan Hospital described the child’s condition as stable but uncertain after complex maxillofacial surgery, Milenio noted.

KIDS - DON'T TRY THIS AT SCHOOL OR AT HOME!
